Notice: Active Jury Duty Scam
Notice to jurors of identity theft.
PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THERE IS A JURY DUTY SCAM HAPPENING CURRENTLY - SOMEONE POSING AS A DEPUTY SHERIFF (in one case, used a legitimate Deputy Sheriff's name and badge number) IS CALLING SAYING THAT YOU DID NOT SHOW UP FOR JURY DUTY AND THAT YOU NEED TO IMMEDIATELY COME TO THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE/MAGISTRATE (and gave correct address information for the office) AND HAND OVER A $2500 CASH BOND OR YOU WILL BE IMMEDIATELY DETAINED AND ARRESTED. NO ONE FROM THE COURT OR THE POLICE DEPARTMENT WOULD EVER CALL AND DEMAND YOU BRING THEM MONEY FOR NOT SHOWING UP FOR COURT! The scam is appearing to be real, as the person on the phone gives legitimate names and addresses so that if someone looked it up to see if the information is real, it appears real. PLEASE KNOW THIS KIND OF DEMAND TO SHOW UP WITH MONEY WOULD NEVER HAPPEN.
