The docket starts at 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m., and 1:30 p.m.. Parties are subpoenaed or summoned to court 30 minutes earlier. This allows adequate time to find parking, get into the building and check in with the Clerk.
Closing the Courts
In the event of inclement weather or emergency, court closures will be posted on virginiabeach.gov and local news channels by 6:15 a.m. The Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court will also post announcements on Facebook, X (formerly known as Twitter), and the Juvenile & Domestic Relations District Court direct line 757-385-4391.
Following a court closure for inclement weather or some other emergency, all cases, except those involving protective orders, scheduled on the affected date(s) will be continued. All parties will receive a summons or notice of hearing with the new court date. It may take two to three weeks for the Clerk's Office to continue these cases.
For cases involving protective orders, the full hearing will be held on the next day that the court is open, and the preliminary protective order will remain in full force and effect until the order is dissolved by the court, another preliminary protective order is entered, or a protective order is entered.
